King Jaguar is coming!!!
Growing up, I found myself thriving on a vigorous diet of professional wrestling, comic books, and action figures. As a kid, I would watch any and all wrestling that I could find, read every single comic that I could get my hands on, and smash around action figures like a madman. I loved everything about comics, toys and pro wrestling. The dichotomy of the good and evil characters, the unique way each one of them fought, the long standing feuds, and the epic battles they fought.
While I loved pro wrestling in general, I specifically remember being mesmerized by the Lucha Libre matches I would find on the Spanish TV channels. Fast paced and dynamic, these masked men were superheroes made real, flying around the arena, mesmerizing me every match they fought.
I had a lot of different toys when I was young, but my early 90's Hasbro WWF toys were my prize possessions. I had SO many and any money I would get from chores, Christmas or Birthdays was immediately spent on buying more. I'd crash them together, make them fight, and fly off the couch just like I saw on TV. These toys and their origins helped shape my childhood and I really got a lot of joy out of them.
Now, years later, I have the chance to bring King Jaguar, one of the stars of my comic, Luchador, to life in soft vinyl. In making him, I wanted something very much akin to my comic book character mashed together with the wrestling toys of my childhood. It's this combination and passion that inspired the King Jaguar toy being presented to you here.
LUCHADOR is a comic series set in an urban world of crime, but all of the characters and the drama of the feuds are deeply rooted in Pro Wrestling. Wanting this toy to embody those roots, we turned to the regular series cover artist, Thiago Silva, for the turnarounds to this awesome toy.
Thiago fully understood the assignment as well as the toy influences and was quickly able to give us a variety of turnarounds. All the turnarounds looked fantastic, but it was King Jaguar's ring attire that excited us the most.
